NASA Credit Union is great. They refunded all the interest accumulated on my CD’s in the last three years upon my request without penalty. They offer one of the best rates on CD in the nation. I like to see them adding more services such as paybills online and Zelle payment.
Opening an account online at NASA CU seems to be a pain. They repeatedly asked for a copy of my DL, which I sent twice. Finally, I got fed up and messaged them to cancel my application, which was the one request they immediately followed through on. You’ll probably have better luck if you can go to one of their branch in-person.
Stay away from NASA FCU..
In order to qualify their promotion, you need $10,000 of new money.. okay.. I am okay with this and have done so.
However, I wasn’t aware of the transfer restrictions to my own Chase account.. I had to get a hold of CS to learn the details. Once I setup the transfer, it got blocked again.. The ACH Department want to verify my identity even after I completed the transaction with Customer Service. ACH was telling this is standard policy that I called her BS.
As a rate chaser, I have never heard of this transfer policy from anywhere else.
Good luck if you ever need to use your money.
Here are Transfer Restrictions
Only $10,000 per day with $30,000 max per month
or
Wire Transfer – no limit – $15 fee
I’ve been a member of NASA FCU for a couple of years now and all in all I can say that I am happy with their service and rates. Most credit unions nowadays are using higher standards of security and it is beneficial to their members in the long run.
I got mine setup, just fine. Looks like Credit Unions are no longer doing Shared Branch stuff anymore.
Good luck actually getting a new CD set up with NASA if you’re not able to walk into one of their branches to open it. They’ll ask for photocopies of your Driver’s License and Social Security card and then scans of a utility bill or something similar to prove your identity. And then… they’ll try and run a full “hard pull” credit check on you all just for the privilege of you investing money with them! Completely ridiculous hoops to jump through just to open a CD. These guys must have had some serious fraud related issues in the past to have these types of protocols in place now.
