eBay Will No Longer Accept American Express Cards starting August 2024

Starting August 17, 2024, eBay will stop accepting American Express cards due to “unacceptably high fees” as reported by Bloomberg.
They started to notify customers about this week via email this week saying “after careful consideration, eBay has decided to no longer accept American Express globally effective August 17 due to the unacceptably high fees American Express charges for processing credit card transactions”.

My guess is that eBay and Amex can’t come to an agreement over interchange fees, and eBay is currently playing hardball. I would think American Express will come to an agreement eventually.
