Business Checking

Our best free business checking accounts will help you relieve some of your worries and troubles of for your business banking needs. If you own a business you know the frustration of small fees adding up.

Explore Business Checking Accounts to find the perfect account for you. Each account comes with a unique blend of features as well as fees and restrictions.

If you’re starting your business, keeping your overhead costs as low as possible without overdoing it is ideal – so with free business checking accounts, that’s a good start. Below are the most common fees you’ll come across with business checking accounts:

  • Monthly Service Fee: Just as straightforward as it sounds, it’s a charge that occurs for each month, and this monthly fee can range anywhere from $8 and up. Most accounts will allow you to waive this fee entirely by meeting some requirement.
  • Excess Transaction Fee: This may sound new, but a handful of business checking accounts do have transaction limits; and if you go over this limit, there will be a charge. The charge isn’t much (could range up to 75 cents), but can surely add up over time increasing your overhead. Prepare and analyze how many transactions your business will incur each month to help pick the best account suitable for your business. The typical limit you’ll find is 100 possibly up to 200 – but there will be some accounts that offer more or less. Transactions can include but not limited to things like writing checks, debit card transactions, & ATM deposits.
  • Cash Handling Fee: Another fee that can occur is if you deposit too much. Yes, depositing too much. Accounts may have a limit of how much cash you can deposit monthly – and if you go over, you’ll get charged for the overage. The fee is subtle (typically 20 – 30 cents), but can definitely add up over time.

Free Business Checking accounts take care of the monthly maintenance fees. You’re then left with deciding on which account gives you the most features with the fewest restrictions and overage charges. Other factors particular to your individual situation include branch and ATM locations.

We reviewed the largest traditional banks and online banks to come up with the list of the best free Business Checking accounts below.

U.S. Bank Silver Business Checking

  • No Monthly Service Fee
  • Monthly Transactions Limit: 150
  • Monthly Cash Deposit Limit: 25 units (see explanation below)
  • Availability: AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, MN, MO, MT, ND, NE, NM, NV, OH, OR, SD, TN, TX, UT, WA, WI, WY
  • Bottom Line: There is no monthly fee with this account, however, you are limited to 150 transactions & 25 units of cash deposits per month. In convenience, they’re one of the largest banks in the U.S. and have over 3,000 branch locations across 28 states.

There is no monthly service fee, but you’re limited to only 150 transactions per month at no charge –  if you go over, the fee will be $0.50.

Now here’s where it gets a little tricky. You’re allowed “25 free units” each month in cash deposits. Each unit is a cash deposit divided by 100, and then rounded to a whole number. For example, if you deposit $250 cash in one transaction, the 2.5 is rounded up to 3, for a total of 3 units towards the 25 maximum monthly. Once you go over the 25 unit limit, there’s a small fee between $0.15 and $0.20 per additional $100 deposited.

Student CheckingStart building your own personal finances and easily manage them with a checking account. With an checking account you can more easily budget, instead of eating ramen for a whole week before your payday. Many banks even offer checking accounts specifically tailored for students.

Before you sign up for just any checking account, you must consider and review the account features. Check if your checking account will offer a free debit card, online and mobile banking, no monthly fee and more.

Avoid accounts with overdraft fees, paper statement fees and more. If you’re interested in a student checking account, read on!

  • Basic Information – Including your social security number, mailing address, phone number, and email address.
  • Two Forms of ID – Your driver’s license and student ID will suffice.
  • Proof of Address – A piece mail with your name and home address.
  • Initial Deposit – Ranges from $0 to $100 with different banks/

  • Monthly maintenance fee
  • Non-bank ATM fee

  • Overdraft transfer fee
  • Continuous overdraft fee
  • Paper statement fee

Overdraft Protection

Overdraft protection is when the bank covers for you in instances when there’s not enough money in your bank account. But the convenience of overdraft protection can compound quickly into hundreds of dollars in fees.

Make sure you know if your bank has overdraft fees and link up to a savings account or credit card. Overdraft transfer fees are generally less expensive than overdraft protection fees.

Other Factors

  • Linked Savings Account – Some banks offer a savings account you can automatically link to your checking account.

Hub AccountPeople have been chasing the highest bank rates for as long as I can remember. If this is you, then it’s very useful to have a Hub Account with fast ACH transfer speed, high limits capability, and no fees.

I want to give you the best options for your hub account in order to trigger bank bonuses, maintain high interest accounts, and speedy transfers so you can get your cash immediately. Let’s go over my recommendations for finding the best Hub account.

What’s A Hub Account?

A Hub Bank Account is simply a bank account that will make it easy to electronically transfer money into and out of your other accounts. Within your bank account, you can do an electronic funds transfer service that allows you to initiate bank-to-bank transfers(known as ACH transfer). Almost every bank has this ACH transfer capability, however it comes with many limitations.

Best Features Of A Good Hub Account

You want to pick a good Hub account with the best features in order to transfer your money. Whether you are looking for fast speed or high limit, a good Hub account should be completely free.

  • Fast ACH Transfers – Most banks take at least 3 business days between the time you initiate the transfer and the time that the money is credited to the destination account. Most ideal transfer speed is 1 to 2 business days.
  • Number of Links to External Account – In order to initiate transfers, you must set up a link to an external account. Usual number of links are restricted to only 3, therefore the higher the better.
  • Transfer Limit Amount – The amount of money you can do ACH transfers is very important to those chasing interest rate, therefore I find this to be very important.

The above 3 features, in my opinion, are the most important when looking for a good Hub account. However, other features that may be important to you include easy link setup, no loss of interest during transfers, no hold times, linking to both checking and savings account.

Best Hub Bank Accounts

  • High dollar limitations for ACH transfers – When pushing money from Customers Bank to an external account, your daily limit is up to $200K per day.  When pulling money from an external account, there is no limit.

Chase First Banking Features

Chase First Banking services are available in the existing Chase Mobile banking app. Once you open a First Banking? account, parents can control their children’s financial habits via the app. Examples of the platform’s features include assigning chores, paying allowances and setting spending limits. You can even restrict where your child spends, at specific merchants or merchant categories.

Kids are able to access their account through the Chase Mobile app, so they can decide which chores to complete, track their spending and see when they’re getting their allowance. Additionally, children with an account will receive their own debit card.

Other First Banking features include:

  • No monthly fee: In comparison, Greenlight costs $4.99 a month.
  • Savings goals: Kids can put money aside for specific goals.
  • Notifications: Parents get real-time alerts when your child makes a purchase.
  • Real-time requests: If your kid is out and short on cash, they can send you a request for more funds. Once approved, the funds will instantly transfer for free.

Chase First Banking Limitations

The biggest drawback for Chase First Banking? is that parents must first have one of the following Chase checking accounts:

Chase Secure Checking Fixed $4.95 fee, declines any purchases that will bring your balance below
Chase Total Checking Waivable $12 monthly fee, no-frills checking account.
Chase Premier Plus Checking Waivable $25 monthly fee, more feature-rich checking.
Chase Sapphire Checking Waivable $25 monthly fee, $0 ATM fees worldwide, 0% foreign transaction fees & $0 outgoing wire transfer fees.
Chase Private Client No monthly fees, but only open to those who keep at least $250,000 in their Chase accounts.

There are two other eligibility requirements: The child must be at least six years old, and the adult and child must have the same residential address.

Chase First Banking? can only be managed by one parent, unless you’re willing to share your login information with your partner. The account has no check-writing capabilities and does not support digital wallets, direct deposits or check deposits at this time.

Bottom Line

Chase First Banking is designed for kids and powered by Greenlight. First Banking? gives families a way to manage chores, track allowances, set savings goals and more. This platform is simple to use and provides flexible control options to parents when it comes to managing their child’s finances. It should be noted that the parent must have an existing Chase checking account in order to get stated.

So if you’re interested in banking with Chase, see what they have to offer through Chase Bank Promotions! And while you’re here on HMB, check our full list of Best Bank Promotions for more options!

How To Meet Direct Deposit Requirements

Here you can find out how to meet the Direct Deposit Requirements to earn bonuses and promotions from new bank accounts.

While there are banks promotions that do not require direct deposit, larger bonuses often require direct deposit.

Banks and Credit Unions use cash bonuses to lure in customers in hopes of keeping them long term. By requiring a direct deposit, which is defined as an “electronic deposit of your paycheck, pension or government benefits (such as Social Security) from your employer or the government“, they hope to keep you locked in.

While it is very simple to meet this requirement by switching an existing direct deposit to the new account, some people do not have the luxury of receiving direct deposit or government benefits.

Thus we compiled a list of alternatives to meet Direct Deposit Requirements.

When you are able to meet the Direct Deposit Requirements, you are on your way to earn bonuses, waive monthly service fees, and earn higher rates.

What Trigger A Direct Deposit For Bank Bonuses

*It is important to know that your experience may end up entirely differently than someone else. In fact, one singular method is NOT guaranteed to work for everyone. Thus we ask that you leave a comment below letting us know about your experience.

  • ACH Transfers: Most if not all bank accounts have Automated Clearing House (ACH) Transfers which is a free way to transfer money between financial institutions. You’ll find this method to be the most popular, usually within 2 business days, to do an ACH transfers to meet direct deposit requirement.
  • Capital One 360 Online Checking: This Online Checking account allows you to make ACH Transfers and Person2Person payments (a way to send money to anyone using your email – much like Chase Quickpay). This is also a very popular alternative because you are able to manage your money from anywhere and you avoid traditional hassles such as monthly service fees. Furthermore, you can earn up to $1,000 a year referring new members.
  • Paypal: You will find limited success with this method but you simply link your new bank account to your Paypal and transfer the balance requirement from Paypal to the account.

Tips Before You Get Started:

  • Because there is no guarantee that no single method will work for you, we recommend trying a combination of the options above.
  • If you plan on applying for several promotions, it is best to have all the options set up first.
  • There are is no risk for additional fees because you are transferring your own money across multiple banks.

Based on the reported experiences of the many consumers online from sites such as FicoForums, Slickdeals, CreditBoards, Flyertalk, etc, we’ll put together the most extensive list of Banks (alphabetically) on alternative method of direct deposit to trigger a bank bonus.

*However, this information is constantly changing, and there is no guarantee these other methods to meet Direct Deposit Requirements will work.

What Banks Count As Direct Deposits

Disclaimer: We make no promise the information below is 100% correct since banks can change what count as direct deposit often.

If a bank/financial institution’s name is listed, that means using ACH through them was reported as successful.

You should always do a push transfer and not a pull transfer in order to qualify bank bonuses.

Your checkbook probably hasn’t seen the light of day as it once did, but that doesn’t mean checks have entirely gone out of style. Even though online payments have become more popular over the last couple of years, some people still haven’t shifted over to that method of payment. Also, some businesses even accept checks as a form of payment, so it’s always a good idea to keep checks on hand.

If you find yourself running low on checks, ordering more is quite a simple process. What’s even better is that banks, like PNC Bank, still offer standard checks for free to some or all of their account holders. Continue reading to learn how to order checks from PNC Bank.

How Do I Order Checks From PNC Bank?

PNC Bank allows their account holders to order checks online or in person. To order checks online, you must log in to your account, know your PNC Bank routing number and account number on you.

You will be able to find your routing and account numbers on your online statements and SmartAccess Card, available through online banking. Non-Virtual Wallet account holders can select “Show Account & Routing Number” under the Account menu in online banking.

Here’s what to do once you’ve located your routing and account numbers:

  1. Log in to online banking.
  2. Select the “Customer Service” tab.
  3. Under “Manage Accounts,” select “Order Checks & Supplies.”
  4. Find the account you want checks for.
  5. Under the “Order” column next to that account, select the “Checks/Supplies” link

An alternative option of ordering checks would be to go to PNC Bank in person and place an order for checks.

How Much Does It Cost To Order Checks?

The cost of ordering your checks will depend on the type of check, the quantity and the vendor. Even if you’re a PNC Bank customer, you are not required to order your checks from the bank.

How Much Does It Cost To Order Checks From PNC Bank?

PNC Bank uses Harland Clarke as their for checks and other accessories. Prices generally start at $19.56 for a pack of 80 safety blue checks. The cost is $39.12 for a pack of 160 checks, $58.68 for a pack of 240 checks, and $78.24 for a pack of 320 checks. Shipping takes about two weeks.

Alternative Ways To Order Checks

If you want to order checks from a seller beside PNC Bank, all you need is your PNC Bank routing number, the bank’s address and phone number, and your checking account number on hand.

Many of my readers have been opening multiple bank promotions over the years to take advantage of the higher interest rates or sign-up bonuses. Whenever opening a bank checking or savings account, you can get either get a hard pull or a soft pull depending on the bank.

It’s important to find out if the bank will perform a hard credit check since a hard inquiry can negatively affect your credit score and may not be worth opening the checking or savings account. Too many hard inquiries on one’s credit report can be resulted in higher loan or insurance rates.

Based on the reported experiences of the many consumers online from sites such as FicoForums, Slickdeals, CreditBoards, Flyertalk, etc, we’ll put together the most extensive list of Banks(alphabetically) on the type of inquiry they will perform whenever opening a checking or savings account.

Read more in-depth explanation for each bank bonus such as direct deposit(full list of what count), account type, expiration date, hard or soft pull, credit card funding, geographical restrictions, additional bonus requirements, and early closure fee.

What Is A Hard Inquiry (Hard Pull)?

    • These inquiries DO affect your credit score.
    • A hard pull is an inquiry that occurs when a lender checks your credit report to make a lending decision.
    • Hard pulls can slightly lower your credit score and will typically stay on your report for two years.

What Is A Soft Inquiry (Soft Pull)?

    • These inquiries DO NOT affect your credit score.
    • A soft pull is an inquiry that occurs when a person or company checks your credit report as a background check.
    • It’s like when you check your credit score or when you get approved for a loan from a mortgage lender.
    • Soft pulls may occur without your permission but does not affect your credit score in any way.

Important: Please help us update our list with your own personal experience by commenting below. If you recently open a bank account, you can check your credit report to see if there is a hard pull or soft pull and from what credit reporting agency such as Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion.
