- Capital One 360 Online Checking: This Online Checking account allows you to make ACH Transfers and Person2Person payments (a way to send money to anyone using your email – much like Chase Quickpay). This is also a very popular alternative because you are able to manage your money from anywhere and you avoid traditional hassles such as monthly service fees. Furthermore, you can earn up to $1,000 a year referring new members.
- Paypal: You will find limited success with this method but you simply link your new bank account to your Paypal and transfer the balance requirement from Paypal to the account.

I would call the bank itself. BUT beware.. 80% of the time they don’t know what they are talking about. I will be closing my acct.. right now it’s in review. Had to file a claim multiple times with this chk.. one min, I’m eligible next I’m not. Had $10, k deposited and now that I’m due for my promo which I was told I was eligible for now I’m not.
Sofi doesn’t accept ebay managed payments(for ebay sellers) as a valid form of direct deposit to qualify for there direct deposit promos. I’ve had over a months worth of almost daily direct deposits sent to my new sofi checking using my routing and account number(not thru ebays new instant funds transfer option via a debit card) just to now learn that $250 bonus and 4% interest rate is never happening… Sux

from my experience draft kings and other gambling sites, as well as investment apps/websites such as Robinhood and crypto.com meet the requirements as direct deposits for all banks. just deposit ur money and transfer it to the new bank card

Transferred Schwab bank to BMO Harris Bank. Not sure if it counts as DD. Kind of worry that it won’t because the transaction is showing “Web Schwab Bank P2P.” Usually p2p means money transfer between peers or friends. Will post more update or do share if you know something. Thanks!
Just tried an ACH push transfer from Chase to Citizens Bank. It said RTP Credit. I didn’t realize there were two options. (Standard and Real Time Payment). I’m guessing the code RTP Credit does not count as Direct Deposit. I’ll try the standard transfer later. Any help?

US Bank didn’t give the $300 bonus after I fulfilled transfers ( direct deposit ) through ACH. You may want to update the list.
Actually, I had a banker at Citizens Bank tell me Venmo counts as a Direct Deposit in 2017. I didn’t ask, but he offered it up as a solution to qualify for the promotion. It does happen. They know it occurs.

Hi, did anyone has successfully did a bank transfer to HSBC as a direct deposit? What bank is it?
Of course a rep will tell you that. They want you to do a real DD from your employer. This article is for people that either do not have the ability to do a DD or just want the bonus. The rep at the bank is not going to tell you that certain ACH transfers come in as DDs and they have no way of telling that it isn’t a DD, unless someone manually does some digging, which most of the time doesn’t happen.
Navy Federal does not seem to work for PNC any longer…..
You can add KeyBank to the Wells Fargo list. I transfer the direct deposit amount from my key bank to wells fargo to avoid monthly maintenance fees.
Does Chime banking consider direct deposits from Chase?
Just spoke to a representative of Citizens Bank to clarify the requirements for a no fee Platinum checking account. Told him that I was interested in opening up accounts online to get a bank bonus they are offering. Out if the blue he said “just to clarify, only a direct deposit will fulfill the direct deposit requirement, bank to bank transfers do not count”.
Citizen’s Bank is on your list as a bank that will count a push transfer from several different banks as a direct deposit.
Any comments from people who may have done this recently?
This is a great list. Not sure where all the input about what works and what doesn’t came from but do hope to see this continually updated. It is a bummer for so many of the banks to have this direct deposit requirement which so many cannot meet. At least this shows some options to try.
I have some additions. A transfer from PayPal shows as a direct deposit in my Wells Fargo checking account. Transfers from Instant Financial have shown as direct deposits in both my Chase and Wells Fargo checking accounts.
I do not bank with TD but would like to deposit funds into a checking account in one. My bank says I have to have a transaction form to make this happen.
Where would I find that? There is not a TD bank within 200 miles of me. Can someone send it online, please?

Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU) transfers to Wells Fargo is counted as Direct Deposit.
BECU (Boeing Employees Credit Union) recently offered me $75 if I made two direct deposits of more than $250. I used Paypal to make two separate transfers one week apart and I’m happy to report that I just received my promo money.

Does Amex personal savings trigger the DD or is it only transfers from Amex Serve?
I just opened a Chase Total Checking account for me and one for my husband. I sold two small amount gift cards to ABC Gift cards.com and had each ACH deposited to each account and about 5 days later we both had our $300 sign up bonuses in our accounts
I regularly use PayPal (almost daily)–including their debit cards and regular EFTs to fund PayPal, aside from withdrawals to Chase–and Chase still just hit me with their first $12 fee in YEARS. I’ve been with them since ~2008 and never had a fee until today. So I’m not convinced that inbound ACH from PayPal qualifies for Chase (unless there’s a very large amount that they accept). I’m in in the process of clarifying now with Chase about what went wrong. Aside: I know I was fine when I was making inbound/outbound ACHs with Fidelity in the past.

That just means somebody posted some number of years ago on the now-closed Fatwallet forum that an ACH transfer pushed from an unspecified-in-their-post external bank met the requirements of the bank in question. Doesn’t help you know what worked to replicate it, just says that there’s a possibility of something other than a legit employer DD working.

Qualifying direct deposits are electronic deposits of periodic payments – such as salary, pension, Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits or other regular monthly income – made into your checking account through the automated clearinghouse (ach) by your employer or other payer. Other transfers and deposits do not qualify for the reduction in the monthly maintenance fee. Non-qualifying transfers and deposits include: teller deposits, wire transfers, non-periodic direct deposits (such as tax refunds or payments for the sale of goods or services), Online Banking transfers, telephone transfers, atm transfers and deposits, and other similar transfers or deposits.
